North Base bring a sizzling summer anthem to Viper Recordings drum & bass Summer Slammers compilation!
The future for North Base is bright, really bright! After scooping up 2nd place at the 2012 National Drum & Bass Awards for Best Breakthrough Producers; Silver, Wilf, Splice + MC Longman have wasted no time in climbing the ranks + fiercely mapping out their undisputed destiny as a legendary global bass music collective. With a string of No.1 selling records in the Trackitdown + Beatport charts, North Base’s multidimensional skill set + well honed reputation has quickly found them at the forefront + led them to producing music for many major league Artists such as Craig David, Big Narstee, Ms Dynamite, Labrinth, The Freestylers, Laidback Luke, Kelly Le Roc, SL2, Benga, TC & Jakes + Jenna G to name a few.
So, it should come as no surprise that for the second year running, Viper Recordings invited North Base back to feature on their epic drum and bass Summer Slammers compilation and collaboratively bring you a truly remarkable piece of mesmerising artistry + selection of sounds that guaranteed wont be leaving your box anytime soon!
Tell us a bit about North Base + how the collective was originally formed back in 2009?
Well originally we formed as North Base in 2009 but Myself (Silver) and (Wilf) Prophecy have known each other nearly 20 years now from when we started Metropolis together, also other club nights and numerous back 2 back DJ gigs across the city and the country. We are family and always will be! We stay united up here in Manchester and that’s how we stick together, even through the hard times. Simon (Splice) came into the fold around 4 years ago now when he sent Wilf a demo then we all got in the studio, made a few tracks and it all went from there to be honest…
Your recent track titled ‘Lotus Peak’ has been featured on the mighty Viper Recordings ‘Drum & Bass Summer Slammers’ compilation + was released on August 5th. What’s the reaction been like so far?
Yeah the response has been incredible! We’ve had lots of good reactions to this track so far and we hope to have more.
How does it feel to be a part of Viper’s hand-picked selection of Artists to feature on the compilation?
An honour to be honest. Brendan and the Viper team have so many great artists and so much good music right now and to be hand pick and selected for a second year in a row is amazing. Thanks guys!
Describe the style and sound of the tune to anyone who’s not heard it yet…..
Think of looking out over on a mountain top and taking in the luscious and beautiful surroundings while playing our track at the same time. Try it and let us know how you feel after?
It’s a beautiful yet bizarre track title, how did the name of it come about?
We felt once we made this track it had an oriental type of sound to it so we used this to our advantage. Then the name came about by searching online and we came across Lotus Peak in China. It’s a beautiful mountain just like the track so It was just a fitting name at the time, so we just went with it.
Where did you draw inspiration + ideas from to create ‘Lotus Peak’?
The track has a lot of soft smooth chordal structures as well different improvisations in certain scales with oriental sounding instrumentation. So we put drum n bass together with this mixture of smooth scales and chordal structures then ‘Lotus Peak’ was created.
Can we expect any more releases from North Base on Viper Recordings in the near future?
Yes we will hope to have loads more stuff coming with Viper in the near future. Nothing we can say for now tho so just keep your eyes and ears to the ground.
Which events are you most looking forward to playing before the end of the year?
Wow so many. This week we are playing the Manchester Carnival powered by Red Bull Music Academy and that will see at least over 10,000 people attended our local Alexandra Park over the weekend, even more we hope, loads of good food and music what more can you ask for? Then week after that we are down in Exeter for a sold out Beautiful Days Festival The next day after that we are over in Wales at the Glass Butter Beach festival where loads of wakeboarders party we hear. Also really looking forward to Creamfields on the Ram Records stage this year that’s gonna be a belter and the Metropolis 14th Birthday at the World famous Warehouse Project in Manchester. Plus loads more stuff in the pipeline for the rest of the year.
