Most TimeOut Music Nights events are for all ages (15 years and up), however the odd 18+ only event will occasionally crop up as well. And if this year goes anything like last years sell out event, it’s sure to be another banger!
When I heard that the Random Concept team had invited Hospitality to host their first drum n bass night at The Roadmender in Northampton the hairs on the back of my neck stood up! Those who know the venue and appreciate great audio will tell you that there is something special about the acoustics in this place. Perhaps it’s the wooden flooring in the main room that gives you a bass experience that is insanely heavy and unique. Always arrive on time for a Hospitality night people, you won’t want to miss a minute!
Opening the night was DJ Lynx, hosted by Bristols own Texas MC. He came straight in with some heavy beats pulling the crowd right up to the front. You can always rely on him to bring something different to the tables, with a masters in audio technology his articulate taste always shines through in his sets. A great start to the night, Lynx will always bring a few surprises. Nu; Tone took to the stage and Texas MC was now in full flow. A lyrics man at heart, his rhymes went just beautifully alongside the sounds of Mr Nu;Tone. There were some filthy beats being dropped throughout this set , and as the venue filled up with happy ravers Texas hyped the crowd up like a pro. These guys need to be on stage together more! Half past the witching hour saw Mr Tony Colman take to the stage as London Elektricity. Now any vested drum n bass fan will sing about the magic these guys bring to the scene.
Dropping some of the finest tunes that have been released this past year, London Elektricity took the place by storm and had the people going crazy with their incredible vibes. It is always a pleasure to see Dynamite MC out to play. Since he came storming onto the scene with pirate radio station Crush FM in the early 90’s he has worked with some of the most prolific names on the scene. And he never fails to deliver.
As the King of liquid Etherwood took to the decks, Tony Colman came out on to the stage and had a good stomp with the crowd. The atmosphere was incredible as Etherwood took it to another level with his trademark ambient sounds. He is Med Schools most recent signing and a wonderful artist to follow. At 3am Danny Byrd came in and hit us all with some stunning old school classics. It is always a magical moment for any raver hearing the first bars of Sweet Harmony… and Danny Byrd always brings it! Ruthless MC was up and the crowd couldn’t get enough of him. He was loving his time on the mic. Discovered by Hospital Records own SP;MC he brings a fresh style to the scene. His unique vocals and charisma on stage were equally as enthralling as he hyped up the crowd.
The final set of the night saw Londons own Metrik take to the stage – in an epic fashion. This man certainly knows his way around a set of decks – Some exquisite drops that had everybody reaching for the stars… The roof was certainly raised at this epic little Northampton hotspot tonight! The building shook, the people danced, and the end of the night left a feeling of unity and positivity in the air. Hospitality never fail with their perfectly constructed line ups of expertly skilled DJs and MCs. As a local lady it was a massive pleasure to see Northampton come alive for this excellent night of drum n bass… More nights like this please!
