Hi Subzero, thank you so much for talking to me and telling the world your secrets.
How have you been?
I’m very good thank you ! Enjoying the start of 2015 I think it’s gonna be a great year !
It’s good to see G Dub back on few flyers recently, is this going to be a more frequent thing again?
Yeah I think G Dub are just one of those acts that people just really wanna see, you have to remember that name was about when Hazard started out many years ago! So there’s a lot of people and not necessarily jump up people who were really into G Dub . We have a lot huge fans ranging from people like Rusko and Casper to Shy fx and cCase and Status, so I think the name is just embeded in the dnb history. It’s always fun to DJ with your mate it’s kinda more of a show case I think because we have 4 cdjs linked and fully go in!
Last year you remixed Phantasy’s 44 Mag tune which has had massive support from artists and been one to get those screwfaces going, when remixing such a classic tune how do you go about planning for it, do you have a vision of in your mind?
I didn’t really have a vision as such for 44 Mag it’s just a tune that if loved for years and knew I would have fun remixing it ! That’s all I try to do in the studio is have fun ! When you do that generally the results are pretty good .
You’ve definitely travelled the world with all theseinternational tours and bookings representing everyone’s one true love that is drum and bass, tell us about some of the places you have visited and what have made them so memorable?
Yeah last year I visited a lot of places inc America, Canada, India, Belgium, Ibiza, Spain and many more! I played at a festival called Motion Notion festival in Canada last summer and that was such an amazing and unforgettable experience. The festival is set in the Rocky Mountains, I landed at about 9 o Clock at night and was picked up we drove for about 4 or 5 hours in to the mountains literally in the wilderness! Obviously it was night time so I couldnt see anything but when I woke up in morning I opened the blinds in this little wood cabin I was staying in and saw where I was and was totally awesome! The festival was set in this valley surrounded by mountains and forests ! Was truly epic scenery .. I played a 2 hour set that night on an outdoor stage in a clearing made in a forest next to the river! Vibes were electric probably one of the best sets ive ever played .
Where is the one place in the world you’ve not been to but you really have an urge to go?
I have a huge urge to see more of Asia I played in India last year which was mental but I really wanna hit more south East Asia next like Hong Kong ,Thailand and my dream is to play in Japan .
As you travel so far and wide, you must have some funny stories to share, don’t hold back, we want names and gritty details!
I tell you a funny story about India , the first night I got there I played in Bombay and I was suppose to get a flight from there to Delhi the the day after, but for some reason the flight had been over booked and it was impossible for us to get on and there was no other flights or trains everything was sold out! So the promoter suggested that we hire a people carrier and drive there and reckoned it would probably take around 18 hours! They said we could stop at the Taj Mahal on the way and we would see the real India so in the spirit of adventure we decided to do it. That was probably one the worst decisions I’ve ever made haha. The first 12 hours of the journey went well but then after that the roads basically deteriorated fast to the point where it was almost undrivable. But we had no choice to push on being that we was still an insane distance from Delhi .. Things went from bad to worse and our progress on these treacherous roads was pretty dire and the driver had not slept for over 16 hours . Before we knew it had got dark and we had been in this car for well over 24 hours . There were cows, goats, bicycles and pedestrians all out in the roads but in the dark you can’t see any of them till its literally in front of you . A cow suddenly appeared and the driver swerved to miss it only to find an on coming truck colliding straight towards us, at that moment I honestly thought we were dead but some how the driver managed to swerve again and the truck narrowly missed us . After that I demanded we stop at the next town and find a hotel . We never did make the gig in Delhi but we lived to tell the story !! And the moral of the tale is don’t try and drive across a sub continent in one day !
And finally, who in your opinion should we be looking out for in 2015? Name one dj, mc and producer ( I never said it was going to beeasy!)
The one DJ / producer I would say is gonna be huge this year is DJ Limited! This guy is so talented and writes all kinds of styles of Dnb and has a real ear for musicality which is kinda rare amongst new jump up producers these days. But yeah I guarantee he will be huge !
Thank you sooo much for chatting with me, hopefully catch up again soon, preferably when these temperatures are a little bit above Subzero! (Sorry that was such a crap joke!)
